Warning about travel insurance

Quote:

There are a number of points to consider on this thread such as the fact that we are always advised to read the small print on any insurance document, or indeed any legal document.

Should insurance companies explain in more detail?

The fact that you only found out about the small print when looking at the contract in great detail shows that perhaps insurance companies need to make consumers more aware of potential issues.

If you asked for medical insurance cover for the length of your stay in Australia, why was this only arranged for two days?

The reality is that the small print on any insurance document does need to be considered in great detail. It is perhaps a shame that insurance companies do not explain the situation in layman's terms but then again, if we don't ask the question?

Yes, the whole problem stemmed from using Orbitz for a one way ticket to Australia and then accepting the insurance offered, thinking it would cover the stay. In the policy it says it is good for 180 days and I thought fine that would be enough until I get my 309. Without a return date booked it made the policy the duration of the flight Jan 11-13 and when I asked they couldn't cover me without a return ticket at all past the two days. They suggested I look online for another company that would.
